Hollow fibre insulation
As the name correctly suggests, a fibre has been created here that has a hollow space. This air inclusion contributes significantly to the insulation value of these fibres. There are new fibres that have up to 4 cavities and can therefore provide very good insulation. These fibres are incredibly small and are given slippery surfaces so that they compress well and have good loft. In sleeping bags and clothing, these fibres are usually incorporated in the form of mats. These are – in some cases – also incorporated in several layers on top of each other. The material for hollow fibres can be a wide variety of synthetic fibres.
